Some observations
I love hockey. Been watching it since I was a little girl. My enthusiasm for the game often was greater than my boyfriends when I was in high school and college. 2018 proved to be just as exciting as 2017 for me, watching my favorite hockey team, the Chiefs. It was tough watching the Chiefs loss at home to Greater Vancouver (6-7) on January 29th last year. I have been following the team on their new official website this year.

Every now and then, my obligations for the online wig store I work for get pushed to the side, especially when the Chiefs are playing. Just this week, I was tasked with ensuring that all the swatch colors for each of Raquel Welch's wig product pages were up to date. That required me to view all Raquel Welch wigs available on our site and compare what we showed for each style against what the wig brand's website displayed. As I delved into the collection, I couldn't help but think of the classic Raquel Welch movies and how her iconic hairstyles must have influenced the wig designs over the years. It's fascinating how cinema can indirectly shape fashion trends, even in the wig industry. Initially, I considered using the inventory feed for Raquel Welch wigs from the brand, but I soon realized that the feed only shows the colors available at that time, not all the colors actually offered. I occasionally check our competitors' websites too, particularly regarding pricing. We boast a vast selection of Raquel Welch styles, both in synthetic and human hair, and each style comes in a multitude of colors. Just as I was navigating my way through, an additional email popped up, asking me to verify the accuracy of the specs for wig cap construction, weight, measurements, fiber, and prices for each style. Given that there are 114 styles/product pages, it's a significant undertaking.

Originally I had promised to finish it by the weekend, but ....hockey was beckoning me and with the added request to really go over all the specs, well, I must say I didn't feel bad at all for setting the work aside to watch hockey! I'll finish my work next week.

After 4 exciting regular season matchups, the Chiefs and Canadians were set to meet in round 2 of the BCMML playoffs. And I wanted to watch the game live. Sometimes I have to record the games, but for me the anticipation and excitement of watching a live game, particularly playoff games, is far superior to watching a recorded game, particularly if I already know the outcome. Gotta go, can't miss this. It reminds me of 2015 when after a sweep of Valley West in the opening round, the Chiefs hosted the Canadians in round 2.

Okay, so I was three days late. I honestly don't believe I could have finished the work even without the hockey game. Fortunately no one noticed since they were all busy dealing with orders. Anyone who is a hockey fan understands.

The teams split the season series, with each team stealing a W in the other's barn. The Chiefs 7-6 regulation loss at home to Greater Vancouver came on January 29, and marked their first loss since early December. It was also the first, and eventually only, regulation loss by the Chiefs at home this season. The Canadians finished the season with a modest 17% powerplay, but in their 7-6 win over the Chiefs, the powerplay was responsible for 5 of their goals, and the other 2 came while down a man. More recently, in their first round series with the Thunderbirds, the Canadians managed to go 3/14, good for 21%, despite having taken themselves off of a powerplay early with a penalty of their own four times. Discipline by both teams will be essential in the outcome of the series.

Both Liam Evenson and Kolby Matthews (pictured above) lead the way for the Chiefs in round 1 and will look to continue their success against the Canadians. Evenson had 2 goals and an assist, but it was the rest of his game that shone through against Valley West. He lead the Chiefs with 16 hits over the two games, and took nearly half of the Chiefs faceoffs, winning 67% of them. Matthews survived a game 1 scare only to bounce back with a shutout in game 2. The heart and soul of this Chiefs squad, Matthews has proven he is a big game performer. He shutout the top team in Alberta, the Calgary Buffaloes, in a must win game at Mac's this season. Last year, he nearly stole the Chiefs a playoff series against the heavily favoured Giants, losing 3-2 in a double overtime in a deciding game 3 despite Matthews making over 70 saves.

Vancouver NE Chiefs Vs GV Canadians January 29, 2017

Greater Vancouver came into the Palace at Poirier looking for redemption after an 8-5 loss the day earlier. The Chiefs were looking to extend their 10 game winning streak, and their sparkling home record.

Scott Atkinson lead the way for Greater Vancouver in round 1. The GVC captain had 3 goals and 2 assists in the opening round. The Edmonton Oil Kings prospect finished 3rd in the BCMML in scoring in the regular season, but much like Chief Ethan Leyh, he did not play in all 40 games. When it comes to points per game throughout the year, Leyh and Atkinson ranked 1st and 2nd respectively. Shutting down Atkinson, as well as his linemate Sasha Mutala, who was a 40 assist man in his first BCMML season will be imperative for the Chiefs to book their tickets to the BCMML Finals

Game 1 goes tomorrow (Friday) night at Poirier at 7pm. Game 2 on Saturday will also see a 7pm puckdrop, with a potential third game taking place Sunday morning at 11am. Be sure to come out and support your Vancouver NE Chiefs as they continue their road to the Telus Cup!
